Giving Tree brings 250 Christmas wishes this year

Briana Hurlston

This year, civil servants, members of Cabinet, and the general public came together to fulfill over 250 Christmas wishes by delivering a variety of gifts under the CIG Giving Tree.

The gift drive for the Giving Tree enables young mothers, families and older persons in need to have some holiday joy this Christmas Season. The initiative was open to all government staff and the wider community to select a tag and fulfill that wish. Individuals responded and, in some cases, pooled together to provide the items.

Deputy Governor Hon Franz Manderson, handed over the gifts on Tuesday, 13 Dec, to representatives of the Department of Counselling Services (DCS), Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), and the Needs Assessment Unit (NAU), for distribution to their clients.

The Deputy Governor shared, “I am so pleased that our civil servants and public servants have worked hard and dug deep to give back to make Christmas special for many of the persons in our community who otherwise would not have had an amazing Christmas. Not everyone is able to support their families and give them some gifts and the fact that we can put a smile on people’s faces this Christmas day makes me very happy. I would like to thank everyone who took part in the giving tree initiative this year.“

Judith Seymour from the Family Resource Centre shared how the Giving Tree initiative helped their clients this Christmas Season. “This is the fourth year that the Family Resource Centre has benefited from The Giving Tree Initiative and we are extremely grateful for being included every year. Our clients would not be able to celebrate Christmas without some of the gifts and the items they receive, particularly our young parents who are experiencing significant stress; this is going to make a tremendous difference for them during the holidays.”

Thank you for participating in the CIG annual Giving Tree Initiative this year and for giving back to a family in need.
