DCS Wins Moment of Magic CIG Award!
The Department of Counselling Services has had a profound impact on the community through various initiatives. Some of the highlights that we recognise—or that some of us have personally benefited from—include:
- Honouring Women’s Month Activities: Each March, the Family Resource Centre (FRC) organises a robust schedule of events celebrating and supporting women, with activities taking place almost daily. Given the Centre’s small team, their dedication and the sheer effort behind each event are truly commendable.
- Free Counselling Services for all: Mental health and wellness are imperative for a well-functioning society. It is incredibly rare for a country to offer counselling services for free, to all, regardless of their nationality and background. Employees at DCS ensure everyone has a safe place to receive the help they need, and offer clarity to what they may be experiencing. They have helped many during emotionally challenging times and continue to offer support as persons navigate their own trials.
- Parenting Programmes: They offer parents and families the tools and support they need to manage their difficulties and changes through various workshops, programmes and counselling. They provide resources to build stronger families and personal relationships within families. Through FRC, families are also provided with the Legal Befrienders hotline for parents who need legal advice but cannot afford legal fees.
The Department of Counselling Services is a government agency dedicated to fostering a healthier, more resilient population in the Cayman Islands. Their services are provided at no cost, with the belief that empowering individuals leads to stronger communities.
With a commitment to evidence-based, culturally sensitive counselling, the Department tailors its services to the diverse needs of the community, utilising a strength-based approach to enhance well-being. Central to their mission is the establishment of strong therapeutic relationships, underpinned by compassion, ethical practice, and a safe environment for healing and personal growth. They are steadfast in their belief that nurturing hope and building resilience are fundamental to their work.
